Strawberry Plants

History on strawberry growing by Balamore Farm Limited.

In 1990 Balamore Farm Limited started growing bare root strawberry plant transplants and selling them to growers in Central Florida. Plants grown in the cool Canadian climate have less disease and pick berries earlier than plants grown in Florida.

The strawberry plants are planted here in Nova Scotia in May and the plants that grow on the runners (daughter plants) are harvested from late September to late October. They are shipped south immediately and planted. The strawberry plants shipped to Florida in October produce berries from December to March.

Balamore Farm Limited presently grows 40 acres of strawberry plants and sells approximately 8 million plants per year. The three most common grown strawberry plants are the Chandler, Festival and Treasure. We have grown other varieties and are open to grow other strawberry plants that are in demand.
